This web site is a "Tombstone" prepared for the "early death" of "Top Down" 20th Century government...
The Internet is beginning to bring huge democratic changes to our world. We are witnessing the sudden collapse of dictatorships, as People Power is harnessed using Twitter, Facebook, etc. to demand REAL DEMOCRACY! But where does "Real Democracy" exist, as cash strapped political parties rely on donations from rich individuals, who, in turn, seek their "pound of flesh"?
We are witnessing the "unholy alliance" of UK politicians, police and media falling apart, with accusations of hacking, police corruption, and the attempts by News International to extend its media influence through the takeover of BSkyB.
During the UK's 2010 General Election, party leaders promised voters a "local say", "power to the people", etc.
However, when ex-Prime Minister Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg, were each approached to "give power to the people using local Internet community systems", none of them wanted to do so! (For background to each, see: House of Commons.) Were they afraid, perhaps, that strong, independent candidates may be chosen locally instead of party nominees? Or, perhaps, as Tony Benn remarks:
"Fifty years in the House of Commons convinced me that Britain is still a Feudal Society and the guys at the top do very well out of it and have no intention of allowing democracy to creep in".
(See links below)
The purpose of this web site is to encourage frustrated voters - and non-voters! - to take back control of their community by setting up a local Internet community system. This could be self-financing through advertising revenues from local traders selling their goods and services online, as well providing details of local events, transport timetables, social groups, etc. Most of all, a local internet community system should have a e-Forum, where residents could propose, and vote on, matters of concern to them
BACKGROUND
Tynwald, on the Isle of Man, claims to be "The Oldest (continuous) Parliament" in the world. (www.tynwald.org.im)
It is also a microcosm of Society everywhere, whereby a small group of individuals pervert the democratic rights of citizens in pursuit of self-interest. (Of particular note, is Royal Bank of Scotland's sponsorship of censored news on an "offshore financial centre".)
Since 1999, I have been proposing that The Oldest Parliament should set an example to "younger parliaments" by becoming the First Parliament and community on the Internet, using a local Internet Community system. In addition to local e-shopping, news, transport time-tables, etc., it was envisaged that citizens, through their e-Forum, would have a real say, 24/7, in the running of their Community.
These proposals have been successfully resisted and censored by not only The Oldest Parliament and media, but by the BBC and UK's national newspapers. (Perhaps, they feared - and still fear - a "domino effect" on other parliaments?)
The 500+ documents on this web site can be summarised by the "Tombstone" at the top of this page.
